Subject:Don Njall Olaf Hagerson - RIP
Posted by:jj_maccrimmon.
Time:11:04 pm.
Mood: shocked.
Anther friend here and in real life has died suddenly of a massive heart attack. Scott Jacqua (Don Njall) hagerson was a fencer, herald, blacksmith and archer, I met and became good friends with him and his wife Sandra in southern California (Caid). When I moved to Alabama, one of the first folks I knew in the region was Scott (he'd moved to Knoxville, TN the year before). Over the last year, he'd had several debilitating bouts with bronchitis and flu which weakened him.

Scott was a great friend and an advocate when I had few in Caid. He's been an amazing sounding board and offered excellent advice. I will sorely miss him.

Subject:Owner of this Community?
Posted by:asbrand.
Time:1:29 pm.
Mood: confused.
I just got an e-mail saying I was just made owner of this LJ community.

*boggle*

Um...ok?   Perhaps it is old age setting in...but I don't recall setting up this community.  So who gave it to me?

Subject:Hello!
Posted by:caligogreywings.
Time:10:15 pm.
Greetings from Alyna MacGregor, herald-at-large.

I used to play in Tuscaloosa, but am currently living in Sylacauga. It's a big change for me, and I wonder if there is a group a little closer to me than Auburn or Birmingham?

If not, is there any interest in starting one up in the Sylacauga/Talladega/Gadsden area?

Hoping to get back into things after being inactive for a long while.

Cheers,
Alyna MacGregor

Subject:Scadian in Tucker, Ga needs a RL Roommate
Posted by:attilia_auborne.
Time:7:45 pm.
Mood: anxious.
I hope that this is ok to post here, if it isn't I will be happy to remove it, thanks!

Hello, I live in Tucker, Georgia. I am looking for someone to share my 2 bedroom duplex with. Pets are welcome, but it may be too small a house for very large dogs, and we would have to fence in the yard eventually. Rent will be $400 a month which includes utilities. I am geek, pagan and GLBT friendly, as well as pretty open minded in other subjects as well. If you would like more info, please contact me through my profile.

Thanks!

X-posted several times.

Posted by:heatermcca.
Time:10:22 pm.
If you can give someone a ride to Crown List and back - or if you'll be going near/through Nashville on your way there, please PM, email, or call me. I know someone who could use a ride and I was going to try to help her out but it's just not going to be able to happen. I don't want to leave her in the total lurch if I can avoid it.

Subject:Dragon Con 2009 Track
Posted by:gwinna.
Time:12:13 pm.
anachrodragon is a discussion group for the new Historical track at Dragon Con. It sounds like they need some help filling their schedule, why not volunteer to lead or contribute to a panel?

Also, there's going to be an official SCA presence in the Saturday Dragon Con Parade this year. Show up in your best, brightest and most colorful garb and show Atlanta the strength of Meridies! :)

Subject:Jewelers of Meridies
Posted by:gwinna.
Time:5:24 pm.
Greetings fellow Meridians!

After searching in vain for Meridians interested in Period Jewelry and Jewelry Making, I created the Meridian Jewelers Yahoo Group.

This group is for anyone who has an interest in jewelry, jewelry making, the lapidary arts and related fields. This is the place to discuss and ask questions about creating historical jewelry and beadwork of all kinds. The purpose of this group is to advance the art of historical jewelry making and understanding throughout the Kingdom of Meridies, including the documentation, technology and techniques involved.

I hope to see you there!

Subject:Pray Tell, Who Are You?
Posted by:averypenguin.
Time:2:10 am.
Greetings all! I would love to find more of the livejournals of individuals that I know, but one of the problems discovered at the cross-section of the SCA and LJ is that I don't know who attaches to which username offline (and as I don't know hardly anybody's mundane name or details, finding folks I know through random clicking doesn't much work either).

I'd be willing to bet a lot of people would go "Oh! That's who that is!" if they were able to attach your offline persona to your LJ. So, pray tell, who are you and how would someone know you? Post in the comments!

Who am I, you ask?Collapse )

Subject:Fundraisers for Thorarinn Grjotgardhsson at Foxes
Posted by:averypenguin.
Time:10:17 pm.
Greetings unto the good gentles of Meridies.

Many of you know the Shire of Vulpine Reach's very own crazy viking, Thorarinn Grjotgardhsson. He is our resident blacksmith and mead maker extraordinaire and an integral part of both our shire & this kingdom. Recently, Thorarinn has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. As many of you know Thorarinn is a fighter and he has determined that he is going to win this, his most important battle yet.

To that end, many friends of Thorarinn in Vulpine Reach have stepped up to offer fundraising opportunities to benefit Thorarinn and his family during this time. The Honorable Lady Juliana de Florey will be tossing on an apron and hosting a fundraiser lunch at the fighting field during the afternoon. More details will be available on site.

We have also opened the field for two benefit tournaments, Thorarinn's Hammer (rapier) and Thorarinn's Anvil (heavy), to be held in the afternoon following the main tourneys. Each will be a single elimination shotgun-style tourney and is open to all with an entry fee of $10.00. Competitors can buy up to four additional re-entries for $5.00 each.

The winning competitor in each tourney will earn a fabulous prize, each made possible by donations from friends of Thorarinn and gracious artisans. The winner of the heavy tourney will be directed to Don Njall Olaf Hagerson and Hagerson Forge to design his/her very own one-of-a-kind, custom knife valued at $200.00! The prize for the rapier tournament will be announced shortly.

Come ready to eat, ready to fight, and ready to show your love and support for our big crazy viking, Thorarinn.

(All fundraising events held at Tourney of the Foxes are sponsored and funded by friends of Thorarinn Grjotgardhsson and are not official activities of the Shire of Vulpine Reach.)

Please excuse a shameless plug for those interested, as the SCA is filled with folks that enjoy reading books...

http://community.livejournal.com/historybookclub/

I made a new LJ community for those of us who like to read and make discussions on historical non-fiction and historical fantasy books - especially books in period for the SCA - as I could not find an appropriate community to otherwise join for such a thing.

If you are interested, please join and share your comments about your favorite history books!

Thanks,
